Fog or Moisture Removal
Can't Inst-I-Glass simply clean the glass and put it back?
Occasionally, we're asked about a service that claims to clean the foggy, stained interior of a sealed unit of glass rather than replace it. Once consumers understand how insulated glass behaves, they wisely choose to replace the failed insulated glass, especially when they realize that Inst-I-Glass gives immediate results and uses superior materials while still keeping prices reasonable. Micro vents are not true repairs. They merely mask the problem.
Companies that vent the glass will drill one or more holes through the double pane unit. The interior may be flooded with some type of solvent to remove any hard water stains and spots, and the fluid is drained. Then, micro vents are installed, to allow the unit to "breath" through a process called "solar pumping" which permits the moisture that remains behind to be forced out each time the window expands. The assertion is made that because the vent is "one way" no moisture enters the insulated glass unit again.
That would be effective IF that were the only route into the insulated glass.
But remember - prior to the installation of the vent, the seal was already damaged, and water had already entered the unit! Has venting the window somehow miraculously repaired that original damage? In a word: no.
Venting simply never addresses the original seal failure that drew moisture into your glass in the first place: a breach in the original seal. Further, the unit - no longer sealed - is constantly breathing ambient air during solar pumping, and so does not offer the energy saving insulating qualities of a true, sealed insulated glass unit.
Why don't we offer a glass venting service? For solid, important reasons:
- Vented glass is no longer sealed insulated glass.
> Inst-I-Glass installs a true insulated glass unit that saves energy and keeps your home comfortable and attractive.
- The original seal failure will not be repaired.
> Inst-I-Glass replacements feature a new seal with current technology, not the materials and processes in place 10, 15, or 20 years ago.
- Residue may remain for days, weeks... or forever, necessitating full replacement anyway.
> Inst-I-Glass starts with the right option, instead of taking a "wait and see" approach.
- The venting process can take days, or weeks... or months.
> No need to wait! A replacement by Inst-I-Glass gives you instantly beautiful results.
- Vents cannot be installed on tempered glass, such as found in doors.
> Why settle for vented windows and new door glass? Inst-I-Glass will make certain all the glass matches, and is of the highest quality possible.
Regardless of appearances, the only true repair for your existing windows and doors is properly sealed new insulated glass. Inst-I-Glass simply will not offer an inferior option!
